Time Traveler’s Science Lab

🔬 Activity Summary:

Kids become “junior time travelers” exploring science experiments from different eras—like ancient Egypt, the Renaissance, or the future! They’ll recreate historical scientific discoveries using simple materials and log their findings in a Time Travel Journal.

🧪 What You’ll Need:

  • Paper or a printable “Time Travel Science Journal”
  • Baking soda, vinegar, lemons, salt, paper, string, small magnets
  • Clear cups or jars
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • A parent or sibling to help guide the experiments

🧭 How It Works:

Pick a Time Period:
Each week, kids “visit” a different time in history or the future. For example:

  • Ancient Egypt: Make natural ink using lemon juice.

  • Galileo’s Time: Try simple gravity experiments with objects of different weights.

  • The Future: Invent a “robot hand” using string and paper joints.

Do a Mini Experiment:
Each time period includes a hands-on science activity that feels like a discovery. Use everyday items—no fancy equipment required!

Record Discoveries:
In their Time Travel Journal, kids write or draw:

  • What they learned

  • What surprised them

  • What they’d invent next time!

Bonus Challenge:
Can they come up with their own time period and invent a new experiment?

🧠 Skills Developed:

  • Scientific thinking & observation

  • Historical understanding

  • Imagination and storytelling

  • Fine motor skills

  • Communication and reflection

🐯 Tiger Cub Bonus Prompt:

“Imagine you’re a scientist from the future—what problem would you solve with your invention?”
